OBITUARY ~ EDITH JOAN "EDIE" (MINNICK) SHOEMAKER

Edith "Edie" Joan SHOEMAKER of Lamoni, Iowa, daughter of Lawrence "Red" and Clarice Emily (STEPHENS) MINNICK, was born on September 9, 1951 at Osceola, Iowa. She died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Monday, February 16, 1998 at the age of 46 years.

Edie graduated from Mount Ayr high school and then Graceland College.

On December 15, 1973 she was united in marriage to Richard Ovid SHOEMAKER in Lamoni. This union was blessed by two children, Jenny and Jesse.

Edie loved her family and friends. She was very active in sports, both playing and coaching. Over the years she coached girls volleyball, girls basketball and high school golf for both girls and boys. She substitute taught school for years. Edie had an active apart of their business, SHOEMAKER Electric.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Rick SHOEMAKER of Lamoni; two children, Jenny SHOEMAKER, a sophomore at Graceland College in Lamoni and Jesse SHOEMAKER, a sophomore at Lamoni High School; parents, Lawrence and Clarice MINNICK of Creston, Iowa; three sisters, Cheryl DUSATKO of Kansas City, KS, Leola KRAKLIK and husband Larry of Creston, Alice BEAVERS and husband Jim of Collins, IA; two brothers, Stanley MINNICK of Grant City, MO and Stephen MINNICK and wife Gladys of Montrose, CO; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, with Rev. Merlin WILKINS officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, IA.

Trod the vally of the shade?
Oh! He came Himself to meet me;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on
He illumined every fearful glad.
Try to look beyond earth's shadows
For I love year dearly still.
Ther is work still waiting for you
Pray and trust our Father's Will."
