OBITUARY ~ MILTON WIARD SHAWLER

Milton Wiard Shawler, son of Chilon and Harriett Shawler was born April 19, 1874 in Warren County, Illinois. He departed this life Nov. 8, 1957 at the age of 83 years and 7 months. He passed away at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston where he was a patient following an accident involving hip injuries. He moved to Iowa with his parents at the age of 18 months and had lived in the Clearfield community for the greater part of his life.

On Jan. 8, 1902 he was united in marriage to May Porter. They were parents of six children: Glen and Gail, both of Denver, Colo.; Beryl of Des Moines, Bert of Lenox, Reva Ripperger of Afton and Donald of Creston.

Mr. Shawler was a member of the Calvary Church until it disbanded. Later he attended the Clearfield Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, May, six children, sixteen grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, one brother, Lowell of Clearfield, one sister, Minnie Woods of Blockton and many relative and friends. His parents, a brother, Ollie and one granddaughter preceded him in death. He was a devoted and loving father and husband; always thoughtful of his family.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Clearfield Sunday Nov. 10 at 2 o’clock. The Rev Kenneth Dalley, minister of the United Presbyterian Church officiated. Music was furnished by Walter Owens, Darl Bell, Ralph Keller and Bob McMath. Organist was Joan Owens.

Casket bearers were John Brown, Cecil Maharry, Bert Routh, John Borland, Fred Bruner and Ray Speer. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
