OBITUARY ~ KATHLEEN SEFRIT

Kathleen GARRETT SEFRIT, daughter of Charles and Vinnie GARRET, was born December 17, 1923 on a farm near Grant City, Missouri, and passed away on July 31, 1994 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa, after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 70 years, seven months and 14 days.

Kathleen, her parents, and sister, Geraldine, moved to Iowa in 1928 and lived on her grandparents' farm where she lived until graduating from Delphos High School in 1941. Kathleen attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College and taught in Iowa and Missouri schools.

At the age of 12 Kathleen accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized and became a member of the Delphos Baptist Church, where she remained an active member until the time of her death.

Kathleen was united in marriage with Robert Harold SEFRIT of Delphos, Iowa, on July 30, 1945. To this union were born one son, Robert George, and two daughers, Barbara Ann and Nancy Carol. After establishing their first home in Clarinda, Iowa, they moved to a farm west of Delphos where she lived until a heart attack claimed Robert's life in 1962. After the death of her husband, Kathleen moved to Delphos in 1966 with her children where she lived until the time of her death.

Kathleen spent 16 years working as a teacher's aide and secretary with the Mount Ayr School District. Later she was hired as a Client Supervisor for the handicapped at the Innovative Industries in Mount Ayr. These seven years of work brought special joy to Kathleen.

Kathleen's greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved tending to her garden and flowers. Her greatest gift was always being there to help and support others.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant grandson, Travis SEFRIT, Kathleen is survived by a son, Robert SEFRIT, an daughter-in-law, Amy, of Fairfax, Missouri; two daughters, Barbara SHIELDS and son-in-law, Barton of Mount Ayr, and Nancy BRAUCH and son-in-law, Terry of Clive, Iowa. Also, seven grandchildren, Christy SHIELDS GOODING and husband Mike of West Des Moines, Iowa, Lanette and Josh SHIELDS of Mount Ayr, Rachel and Robert SEFRIT of Fairfax, Missouri and Aaron and Tammy [portion missing]
