OBITUARY ~ ALFRED EARL "ALFIE" SACKETT
July 06, 1889 ~ February 13, 1972

Alfred (Alfie) Earl Sackett, youngest son of A.M. And Louisa Dear Sackett, was born July 6, 1889 and passed away February 13, 1972, in his home in Mt. Ayr after a lingering illness, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Mr. Sackett was born in Lotts Creek Township and spent his entire life in Ringgold County with the exception of a few months in Oregon and Colorado. For the last 31 years he had resided in Mt. Ayr. On December 8, 1909, he was united in marriage with Florence Elliott, and on Dec. 8, 1971 they observed their 62nd wedding anniversary. Of this union were born three sons: Burl, Paul, and Lyle. They also reared a grandson, Larry Sackett.

Prior to his retirement he was employed for 23 years by the town of Mt. Ayr as a member of the police department and waterworks superintendent.

Bedfast the last four years, he was faithfully cared for by his wife, Flossie. He was a good patient and always kept his sense of humor. He enjoyed having his family, friends and neighbors visit him. As a young man, he joined the Eureka Methodist Church and later transferred to the United Methodist Church in Mt. Ayr. He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Paul; his parents, a brother Lester, and two sisters Ella Kindblade and Mae Guthrie.

Survivors include his widow, Flossie, sons, Burl(Grace), and Lyle; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces, 1 nephew and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held February 15 from the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Ward Campbell. Music was provided by David and Bob Allen, and organ was Mrs. Rollin Noble. Casket bearers were grandsons Larry, Elton, Jim, Keith and Andy Sackett and Dennis Stephens. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mt. Ayr.
