OBITUARY ~ LOREN EUGENE SWETT

Services for Loren Eugene SWETT, 81, of Temple will be 1 p.m. Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Brent BOATWRIGHT officiating.

Burial will be in Reeds Lake Cemetery.

Mr. SWETT died Sunday, Aug. 29, in a local hospital.

He was born July 4, 1929, in Delphos, Iowa, to Orville and Nina Grace EVANS SWETT. He married Mattie Alice BLEEKER Aug. 8, 1952, in Temple, and she preceded him in death March 7, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army for over 22 years, during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW in Belton and the American Legion. He served as a commander for the DAV, Chapter No. 111 in Temple. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Curtis Wayne MAYES of Little River, H. L. MAYES of Belton, and Weldon O'Dell EASLEY of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a brother, Carl Henry SWETT of Savannah, Mo.; a sister, Mary Lucille NOVAK of Diagonal, Iowa; grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to any Disabled American Veteran organization or Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
