OBITUARY

WILLIAM P. STUBBS & MARY C. (McGIRR) STUBBS

Wm. P[atton] STUBBS was born in Bellmont County, Ohio, January 14, 1828, and died at his home in Decatur County, March 3, 2903.

Deceased was married to Mary C. McGIRR, March 6, 2850. To this union were born thirteen children, six sons and seven daughters. Seven of them are still living and were in attendance at the funeral--N. P. STUBBS of Ringgold County, Theodore STUBBS and Mrs. GALVIN of Monroe County, William Jr., Mrs. WOODS, Mrs. McINTOSH and IDDO of Decatur County. Mr. STUBBS never made a public profession of religion but was a firm believer in a supreme being and lived an upright honorable life.

The short funeral services were conducted by A. A. Burchett, who, by former request of deceased, consented to reading chapters from Psalms, had prayer and singing of two or three hymns, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Gregg Cemetery [Doyle Township, Clarke County, Iowa].

Mary C. (McGIRR), wife of Wm. P. STUBBS, was born May 9th, 1830.

Deceased was reared in the faith of the Quakers, but after her marriage never united with any other church but lived a quiet, upright life. Leaving a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn her loss, Sister STUBBS died on the 53rd anniversary of this marriage. Her remains were laid by the side of her husband who died only two days before.
