OBITUARY - UNITY ADELINE (JOHNSTON) STRANGE

Unity Adeline STRANGE, 88, of Creston died August 30, 2004, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 2, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. The Rev. Pete BRANTNER will officiate the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Creston. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Platte Center Church, Crest Haven Care Centre or Greater Community Hospital.

Mrs. STRANGE, daughter of Cleatus (BROWN) and Merlyn D. JOHNSTON, was born December 22, 1915, near Diagonal. She graduated from Diagonal High School in 1933. On September 18, 1933, she married Donald Fred STRANGE at the Methodist Church in Creston. They lived and farmed near the Lenox, Diagonal and Creston areas, before moving to Creston and retiring in 1978. She was a homemaker, farmwife and member of the Platte Center Church of rural Creston.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Fred STRANGE of Creston; one daughter, Shirley Ann (husband Robert A.) ERICKSON of Mount Ayr; a sister-in-law, LaVeta STRANGE of Diagonal; one grandson, Mark (wife Brenda) ERICKSON of New Virginia; two great-grandchildren, Alexi and Toriann ERICKSON; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant great-grandson, Jacobie Allen ERICKSON; two brothers, August and Carol JOHNSTON; a brother-in-law, Walt STRANGE; and two sisters-in-law, Mae JOHNSTON and Cletus JOHNSTON.
