OBITUARY

Ralph Edward STEVENS was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio, March 12, 1848 and died at his home near Diagonal, April 27, 1911. Aged 63 years, 1 month, 15 days.

January 2, 1871, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane SIMPSON. To them was born 9 children, 2 of whom died in infancy.

When 16 years of age, he moved with his parents to Mercer County, Illinois, near Alexis (Norwood) Suez Twp., where he resided until 1876, when he moved to Ringgold County, Iowa, and settled on his homestead farm, where he made his home until his death.

When a young man he was converted and joined the Presbyterian church in Diagonal. He was elected Elder of the Presbyterian church in Diagonal and served faithfully in that capacity until death came and called him home.

Mr. STEVENS' death was caused by an injury which he received in a runaway with a team of horses on April 17, 1911. It was thought by those attending him, that he was getting along alright (sic) and when the men who had spent the night with him had left at 5:15 am he was quite lively and seemed to feel as usual and died before 6 o'clock. His death was caused by hemorrhage to the brain.

The children who survive him are Mrs. A. M. JONES: H. R. STEVENS, W. X. STEVENS, Ed STEVENS, Mrs. Roe WILLIAMS, all of whom live near Diagonal and Mrs. J. W. MONK of Bedford. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery.
