OBITUARY

Ed L[eroy]. STEVENS, 75, who has been well known as a Clarinda barber for the past 37 years, died suddenly at his home in Clarinda at 11:40 am Saturday, his death being caused by a heart attack.

Although his health had not been too good recently, he had been able to continue his work at Art STEWERT's Barber Shop, and had been working Saturday morning until he went home because he was not feeling well.

Mr. STEVENS was born at Diagonal on April 10 1887, He was married to Sarah J[ane]. KESSLER on Oct 18 1911, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary last year.

He was a member of the Diagonal United Presbyterian Church, and the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges of Clarinda.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Edward L. STEVENS of Des Moines, and Richard E. STEVENS of Shenandoah; one brother, Homer R. STEVENS, Tingley; and two sisters, Mrs. Lura WILLIAMS of Des Moines. and Mrs Rudolph (Myrtle) FOGLE of Diagonal.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral Home this Monday afternoon, with the Rev. D. C. DAVIS in charge. Organ music was by Aletha HUTCHINGS. Casket bearers were Day SHAFER, Harlan BRADRICK, Bob GRIMM, Fiddle HULBERT, Paul GORRELL, and Orville PREED. Burial was in the Clarinda cemetery.
