OBITUARY - MRS. HOMER STEVENS

Homer R. & Edith May (BEADLE) STEVENS
Wedding Photograph, December 12, 1900

Homer R. & Edith May (BEADLE) STEVENS
50th Anniversary, December 12, 1950

Edith Mae STEVENS was born September 10, 1877, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. [Emeline (BAILEY)] Ben BEADLE, in Ringgold County near Clearfield, Iowa, and departed this life March 1, 1953 at her home in Diagonal, Iowa.

On December 12, 1900, she was united in marriage to Homer R. STEVENS. They enjoyed the privilege of observing their fiftieth wedding anniversary December 12, 1950.

To this union were born six children all of whom with her husband survive, Vera, (Mrs. Shafter HARRIMAN) of Portland, Oregon; Glee, (Mrs. Claude MOORE) of Denver, Colorado; Cecil of Redding; R. B. of McCoy, Colorado; Donna, (Mrs. Orville BEAR) of Tingley, and Walter of Des Moines.

Excepting for six years spent in, Wayne County, Mrs. STEVENS spent her entire life in Ringgold County. Very early in life she became a member of the Presbyterian church, and remained a faithful and conscientious participant in its work until ill health prevented.

Besides the members of her immediate family, she is mourned by twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Edward E. BEADLE of Sun Valley, California, other relatives, and a great many friends.

Her true spirit was shown in her last illness. There was never a word of complaint, her only thought being for the comfort of others and for her family.

It might be said of her as the Apostle Paul said of himself: She has fought a good fight, she has finished her course, she has kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give at that day.

"Born this life in endless days
When care and strife shall pass away,
An angel sang before her face,
Whose name on earth was Edith Mae."

Services were held at the Presbyterian Church of Diagonal on Wednesday, March 4, 1953 at 2:00 o'clock p.m. with Rev. Kenneth TURNEY officiating. Casket bearers were Lee DAVENPORT, Elmer REECE, Ronald BEYMER, Oliver PARKER, Paul OVERHOLSER, and Don WILEY. Interment was at Bethel Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
