NOTICE of DEATH - LLOYD STEPHENS

Lloyd STEPHENS, 86, of Mount Ayr died August 22, 2005, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr. Services are pending at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr.

OBITUARY - LLOYD ERNEST STEPHENS

American Flag.jpg Lloyd STEPHENS, 86, of Mount Ayr died August 22, 2005, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, at the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Lowell HOUTS will officiate the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. There is open visitation until 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. Memorials may be directed to the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church.

Mr. STEPHENS, son of Lola Maude (SPENCER) and Lloyd Ernest STEPHENS, was born April 24, 1919, near Delphos in Ringgold County. He graduated from Delphos High School in 1937. On June 1, 1943, he married Mary M. TRIMBLE in Kellerton. He was a farmer. He was a member of the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church and Ringgold County Farm Bureau. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary STEPHENS of Mount Ayr; four children, Richard (wife Linda) STEPHENS of Maryville, Mo., Dennis (wife Donna) STEPHENS of Mount Ayr, Susan STEPHENS and Sandra STEPHENS, both of Lees Summit, Mo.; brother W.A. (wife Gaylene) STEPHENS of Winterset; sister Clarice MINNICK of Creston; five grandchildren, Ernie (wife Jill) STEPHENS, Jennifer (husband Boyd) BURN, Brenda (husband Clifford) MORRIS, Tim (wife Marie) STEPHENS and Debbie STEPHENS; four great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Stephen BURN, Ella Morris and Harrison Stephens; brother-in-law LeRoy "Butch" Trimble of Mount Ayr; and two sisters-in-law Doris (husband Paul) HANNON of Mount Ayr and Ruby STEPHENS of Shannon City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Muriel STEPHENS, and five brothers, Spencer, Sherrill, Joe, John and Earl STEPHENS.

OBITUARY ~ LLOYD E. STEPHENS

Lloyd E. STEPHENS, Junior was born April 24, 1919 to Lloyd E. STEPHENS, Senior and Lola SPENCER STEPHENS on the family farm near Delphos, Iowa. He attended Delphos Consolidated School and graduated in 1937. He served in the Coast Artillery until 1943 when he received an honorable discharge because of a knee injury. He worked at Rath Packing and John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa until February 1944.

On June 1, 1943 he was united in marriage to Mary TRIMBLE. They spent 62 years together. Their children are Richard, Dennis, Susan and Sandra. In 1944 he decided he didn't like living in the city so they started farming in the Kellerton and Delphos areas. In 1958 they bought the farm they currently live on and raised their family. He made many improvements and practiced good soil conservation. He wanted to leave the land he farmed better than when he started. He was very happy when Denny decided to come back to the farm in 1971 and when Tim came back in 2001.

He was a member of the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church. He was very interested in getting the new building built and visited the site many times to check on the progress.

He suffered a stroke on Feb. 6 on the way to the first service in the new building. He got to the door but couldn't get out of the van and went to the hospital instead. Lloyd died on August 22, 2005 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr.

He leasve behind his wife Mary; children, Richard (Linda) of Maryville, Missouri, Dennis (Donna) of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Susan and Sandra of Lee's Summitt, Missouri; grandchildren, Ernie and Jill STEPHENS of Golden, Colorado, Boyd and Jennifer BURN of Bedford, Iowa, Cliff and Brenda MORRIS of Augusta, Kansas, Tim and Marie STEPHENS of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and Debbie STEPHENS of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Stephen BURN, Ella MORRIS and Harrison STEPHENS; sister, Clarice MINNICK of Creston, Iowa; brother, W.A. (Gaylene) STEPHENS of Winterset, Iowa; sister-in-law, Ruby STEPHENS of Shannon City, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doris and Paul HANNON and LeRoy and Betty Jean TRIMBLE; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Lola STEPHENS; parents-in-law, Harry and Lois TRIMBLE; sister, Muriel and brothers and spouses, Spencer and Lois, Sherrill and Erna, Joe and Esther and John; brother-in-law, Lawrence MINNICk and an infant brother, Earl.

Services were conducted at the United Baptist-Presbyterian Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lowell HOUTS officiating. Musicians were Nancy SACKETT and Debbie LARSON. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Richard STEPHENS, Dennis STEPEHNS, Ernie STEPHENS, Boyd BURN, Tim STEPHENS and Cliff MORRIS.

Lloyd was laid to rest at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
