OBITUARY - EVA MARIE (DRISKELL) SOBOTKA, Diagonal
DIAGONAL - Eva Marie SOBOTKA, 83, of Diagonal died Sunday evening, Sept. 25, 1988, at Greater Community Hospital
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Diagonal.
The Rev. Eydie STEPHENS will officiate with burial in the Bohemian Cemetery at Diagonal. A family night will be
held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home here [Diagonal]. A memorial has been established
to the United Church of Diagonal or the Iowa Commission for the Blind.
Mrs. SOTOBKA (sic) was born Nov. 7, 1904, near Diagonal to Walter Jacob and Ida Mae (BROWN) DRISKELL. She married
Andrew SOBOTKA Feb. 14, 1923, in Diagonal and he died in [Feb. 10] 1982. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of
the Diagonal community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Diagonal, and a
charter member of the Wednesday Club.
Survivors include five sons, Bernard Andrew of Ellston, Walter Joe and Charles Eugene of Diagonal, Wallace
Edward of Benton, and Elbert Lee of Zearing; three daughters, Margaret Louise (Mrs. Darwin) McGINNIS of Taber, Mary
Maxine (Mrs. Bill) MYERS of Missouri Valley, and Sheryl Sue (Mrs. Carroll) STRANGE of Virginia Beach, Va.; 28 grandchildren;
34 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don DRISKELL of Creston; and four sisters, Margaret RICKER of Mount Ayr, and
Ethel WINN, Mildred (Mrs. George) MIERS, and Irene (Mrs. Bob) STATT of Creston.

OBITUARY ~ Eva SOBOTKA
Eva Marie DRISKELL SOTOBKA, oldest daughter of Walter Jacob DRISKELL and Ida Mae BROWN DRISKELL, was born November
7, 1904 near Diagonal, Iowa, and passed away at the Greater Community Hospital, Creston, Iowa, on September 25,
1988, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 18 days. She attended Fairview country school and Diagonal High School.
On February 14, 1923, she was united in marriage to Andrew Joseph SOBOTKA at the Methodist parsonage in Diagonal. They
began their marrired life on Andrew's home farm where she has resided for the past 65 years. This union was blessed with
Eva was a member of the Methodist Church and the United Church of Diagonal and a member of W.S.C.S.
She was a charter member of the Wednesday Club. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and
embroidery work until her eyesight failed in recent years. She also loved gardening and was eager to share her garden
Survivors include her children: Margaret Loise McCINNIS and husband, Darwin, of Tabor, Iowa; Mary Maxine
MYERS and husband, William, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Bernard Andrew and wife, Marilyn, of Ellston, Iowa; Walter
Joseph and wife, Bernadine, of Diagonal, Iowa; Elbert Lee and wife, Janis, of Zearing, Iowa; and Sheryl Sue
STRANGE and husband, Carroll, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; four sisters,
Margaret RICKER of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Ethel WINN, Mildred MIERS and IRene STUTT of Creston, Iowa, and one brother, Donald
DRISKELL of Creston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew, and one brother, Everett DRISKELL
of Creston, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, from United Church of Diagonal, conducted by
Rev. Eydie STEPHENS. Music was provided by Bob BECKER and Margaret TAYLOR.
Casketbearers were Mark SOTOBKA, Kenneth
SOBOTKA, Steve SOBOTKA, Jon SOBOTKA, Rick SOBOTKA and Ted RICKER, Jr. Burial was in the Bohemian Cemetery near the
family farm southwest of Diagonal.
Memorial gifts will go to Iowa Commission for the Blind and United Church of
