OBITUARY - DEAN SIMPSON

Dean SIMPSON, 79 of Monmouth [Illinois], but a native of the Diagonal area, died Friday night [December 18] at a hospital here. His funeral was 2 p.m. today at Hoover Memorial Chapel here with the Rev. Keith B. SIMPSON [not related] of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial and a graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell with the Monmouth funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. SIMPSON was born April 26, 1903, in Diagonal to Harry and Delilah (WAX) SIMPSON and he was raised in Iowa. On Nov. 30, 1922, he married Ruth BUNN in Indianola. They farmed in Iowa until 1946, when they moved to Monmouth [IL]. Since then he was employed by Farm Bureau and Ralph Wells [a pet food company], retiring when he was 65. He then worked part-time for seven years for Monmouth Hospital. He was a member of the Monmouth First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Monmouth; three sons, Duane of Monmouth, Billy of Moline and Jim of Toulon, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and relatvies in the News Advertiser area.

He was preceded in death by a son, Junior, parents, a grandson, one brother and two sisters.

A memorial is to be established.

At his funeral, honorary and active pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons, Dennis, Junior, Mark and Mike SIMPSON, Dave LAHR, Robert JAMIESON, Robert MINGS, John INHELDER and Joe LOUCK.
