OBITUARY - LYNN WEST SICKELS, Creston
Lynn West SICKELS, 53, 806 W. Montgomery St. died Tuesday evening, June 21, 1988, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center
in Des Moines of cancer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home here [Creston].
The Rev. Lyle V. KUEHL will officiate with burial in the Ellston Cemtery. There is open
visitation at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established in his name.
Mr. SICKELS was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Ringgold County to Cecil LeRoy and Maxine (LANCE) SICKELS. He married
Janet WOOD March 2, 1963, in Ellston Methodist Church. He lived in Sioux City, Bloomfield, Fairfield and Keota before
moving to Creston in 1971. He was a civil engineer and a member of the Creston Elks Lodge No. 605. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of Creston; two daughters, Vickie Lynn of Creston and Joni LeAnn SICKELS, a student
at ISU in Ames; a son, John West SICKELS, Creston; his parents, Cecil and Maxine SICKELS of Mount Ayr; three
brothers, William G. of Afton, Gene of Kellerton and Mack SICKELS of Mount Ayr.

OBITUARY ~ LYNN SICKELS
Lynn West SICKELS, son of Cecil and Maxine LANCE SICKELS, was born January 18, 1935 in Liberty Township, Ringgold
County, Iowa, and passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21,
1988, at the age of 53 years, five months and three days.
Lynn spent his early years working and playing on his parent's
farm and attending school in a one-room schoolhouse where his mother was the teacher. Lynn graduated from Mount Ayr
High School in 1953, completed his freshman year at Iowa State University on June 7, 1955 and enlisted in the U. S. Armny
on June 23 of the same year. He was discharged on March 22, 1957 and went immediately back to I.S.U., where he received
his degree in Civil Engineering on May 22, 1960.
In 1975, Lynn purchased land in South Union County, whre he found rest and
relaxation on the eat of a tractor and spent many enjoyable hours with his family and friends. Lynn left Mid-State in
1986, and worked as Executive Director for SIRWA. He was mot recently employed as Ringgold County Engineer, where he
thoroughly enjoyed working among his many friends and family.
Surviving Lynn are his wife, Janet; two daughters,
Vicki Lynn of Creston and Joni LeAnn, a student at I.S.U. in Ames; a son, John West of Creston; his parents, Cecil and Maxine
SICKELS of Mount Ayr; three brothers and their wives, Gene and Marjorie SICKELS of Kellerton, William G. and Anne of
Afton, and Mack and Phyllis of Mount Ayr; a live-in [?] brother, Richard WALTER and wife, Barbara, of Lakewood, Colorado;
his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Pauline WOOD; several brothrs-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews
and cousins; other relatives and many dear friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 24, 1988, at 2:00 p.m.
at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston. Services were conducted by Rev. Lyle KUEHL. Music was provided by Vicki Lynn
SICKELS who sang "A Place in the Sun."
Casketbearers were Greg JOBE, Jim SICKELS, Jeff JOBE, Mike SICKELS, Matt
SOMERS, Tim SOMERS, Shawn LAUER, and Derek REHA. Honorary pallbearers were John POTTS, Robert PRINGLE, Keith MAIN,
Paul SOMERS, pat KELLY, Marlin NEISEMIER, Con REHA, Jim NORMAN, Greg SHAWLER, John THOMPSON, Larry SICKELS and Phillip
Interment was in the Ellston Cemetery at Ellston, Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established at Southwestern
Community College [Creston, Iowa].
