OBITUARY - GUY SHEPPARD

Services were held Sunday, January 28, 2001, at the Boulder Creek Methodist Church, Boulder Creek, California, for Guy SHEPPARD who died January 21, 2001, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Paul SEALS in Ben Lomond, California. He was 95.

Guy was born in Harrisonville, Missouri in 1905. He graduated from Mount Ayr high school in Iowa where he was captain of the football team. He then attended business college. He married Mary DINKEL.

He held a variety of jobs during his long life including working for the Ringgold and Clarke county Iowa engineer's offices, International vice-president of the AFSCM Workers, grocery clerk, state hospital attendant, marshal, and security guard. After his "retirement" he sharpened saws for 12 years.

Guy and Mary moved from Ringgold county in 1941 to Woodward and raised their four children there, always active in the schools and their church and the Woodward Hospital and school. He was a familiar figure behind the counter in Bob's Market.

Guy and Mary moved to California in 1962. A life-long Methodist, Guy served his beloved church family there as usher until this last year. He will be remembered and loved as a quiet, gentle man. His family was his life. He was proud of his children and the fact that they all had obtained degrees on their own.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary (DINKEL), who died in 1993. They were a team. He missed her so.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Paul SEALS of Ben Lomond, California, son Maurice of Mansfield, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Dr. Robert and Doreen of Clinton, Iowa, and son and daughter-in-law Richard and Mary of Grapevine, Texas; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

[Interment at Bethel Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.]
