OBITUARY - KATHARINE H. (WALLACE) SHAW

Katharine H. SHAW, youngest daughter of Fred A. and Mary N. (ARMSTRONG) WALLACE, was born March 24, 1910, in Redding, Iowa, and departed this life March 8, 1989, in Denver, Colorado.

She served as Postmaster of the Redding Post Office from 1932 until 1958, being one of the first women to serve in Governmental capacity as Postmaster.

She was married to Walter SHAW in September, 1939. To this union was born one daughter, Freda DENNIS.

During the time she lived in Redding, Katharine also operated a kennel, selling A.K.C. registered dogs.

She left Redding in 1958, living for a short time in Kansas, moving to Colorado in 1960, where she spent the remaining years of her life. She worked was a Nursing Attendant at Denver General Hospital until her retirement in 1972, due to health reason.

Her interests included flower growing, collecting antiques and cooking for family holiday get-togethers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and her two sisters and their husband, Mamie L. and Wilbur F. SAVILLE and Ruth W. and Roy P. BRYAN; and two nephews, Bill BRYAN and Bob SAVILLE.

Surviving are her daughter, Freda K. and husband, Donald DENNIS, of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Julieann and husband, Tim MURPHY, Kevin and wife Dorie, Cary and James; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held on March 11, 1989, in Denver, Colo., with burial in the Arvada, Colo. cemetery.

Casketbearers were Howard, Ed, Dean and Stanley BRYAN, Sam and Eddie STEPHENS and David BRYAN.
