The Ringgold Record, 1897

OBITUARY.

Mrs. Sarah A. (IRWIN) SCOTT departed this life November 25, 1897, at the home of her son-in-law, O. GRIFFITH, living two miles west of Diagonal, aged 74 years. She was born in Belmont county, Ohio, September 9, 1819. On April 16, 1839, she was married to John I. SCOTT, who died in October, 1882, leaving her a widow. Since that time she has lived mostly with her children in Athens county, Ohio. Being very anxious to come to Iowa and see and live with her children, W. H. JOHNSTON and wife went back after her but her stay was short as she lived only nine weeks after coming here. She leaves a great many friends and relatives to mourn. She was the mother of eight children. Her youngest daughter died in 1891 and her third son died last August. She leaves one son and one daughter in Ohio and four children in Iowa: Wm. I. SCOTT of Bedford, S. T. SCOTT near Diagonal, Mrs. O. GRIFFITH and Mrs. Wm. H. JOHNSTON. She was converted in childhood; received the blessing of sanctification in 1883; was a member of the Methodist Protestant church. Her last works (sic) were, "Jesus saves me. I'm going home." Her funeral took place from the Grant center church, conducted by Rev. CURTIS and Rev. MILLER, M. E. pastors; text 2 Tim. 4:7-8. She was interred in the Clearfield cemetery.

NOTE: Of Sarah A. (IRWIN) and John I. SCOTT's children: William I. SCOTT was born April 14, 1844, and died December 18, 1928 with interment at Clearfield Cemetery beside his wife Mary A. (JOHNSTON) who was born in 1845 and died in 1916; Mary E. GRIFFITH was born 1852 and died in 1919 with interment at Clearfield Cemetery beside her husband, Orlando GRIFFITH who was born December 28, 1845 and died July 24, 1921; and son-in-law William Henry JOHNSTON who was born September 19, 1843 and died June 12, 1911 with interment at Johnston Cemetery near Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa.
