The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1931

OBITUARY - MRS. BEN SCOTT.

May W. JONES, daughter of Thos. O. and Nancy E. JONES, was born November 1, 1876, in Champain county, Ohio, and departed this life at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, December 23, 1931, at the age of 55 years, one month and 22 days. At the age of four years she moved with her parents to Adams county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. In the spring of 1896 the family moved to Ringgold county, Iowa. On March 8, 1898, she was married to Frank B. SWAN. To this union one son was born, Clement G. SWAN, now of Kansas City. On July 22, 1911, she was married to Ben SCOTT, of Kellerton, Iowa. To this union one daughter was born, Maurine SCOTT, of the home.

She is survived by her aged father, T. O. JONES, with whom she and her family have made their home and cared for several years. Her husband, Ben SCOTT, and daughter Maurine, of the home, and one son, Clement G. SWAN, of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. G. E. MANNERS of Mount Ayr, Iowa; and two brothers, Carl JONES of Council Grove, Kan., and Frank JONES of Kellerton, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Edward, Elaine and Jack SWAN of Kansas City, Mo., and a host of friends. May, as she was known to her many friends, was a kind and loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed in the home. Her life was a life of service for her loved ones. She took tender care of her mother through a lingering sickness of five years and was taking care of her aged father at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. E. E. VOSS, of the Methodist church and laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery at Mount Ayr. The floral offering was beautiful and profuse.
