OBITUARY ~ JAMES ELBERT "JIM" SCOTT

James Elbert SCOTT was born Feb. 15, 1919 in Depress, S.D., the son of Wilbur H. and Lura LUCAS SCOTT, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John E. SCOTT, who were Mount Ayr pioneers; and nephew of Walter SCOTT and Susan CLARK.

From South Dakota, Jim moved to Spokane, Washington. He attended Whitworth College there. After serving in the Army National Guard, he entered active service in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Returning to the family farm near Kellerton, Jim farmed with his parents for several years until their deaths. His health forced him into early retirement and he spent many years in and out of the Veterans' Hospital in Salt Lake City. He spent 12 years at Hillside Villa, a convalescent home in Salt Lake City, until his death on June 13, 1988.

James never married.

He leaves a brother, John L. SCOTT and his wife, Betty, of Kellogg, Idaho; a sister, Virginia WUHRMAN and her husband, John, of Spokane, Washington; one nephew, Allen Lee SCOTT of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and two nieces, Katherine WILSON of Concord, Calif. and Sue MITCHELL of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Graveside services were held June 18, 1988 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Doris HANSON. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #172, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
