J[ohn]. H[aden]. He was the fourth child of a family of 11. At the age of 16 his dear mother was taken away, thus breaking up the home. He was to live a christian life. He was united with the Christian church, his father being the minister. In later years he transferred his membership to the M. E. church, living a christian life for 60 years. always attending church and Sunday school, assisting with the singing and helping in every way possible until the illness of his companion which caused him to stay at home as her illness was the one great worry of his life.

He was married on February 12, 1874, to Virginia HUDSON. They established a home in Illinois, but later moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa. He then moved on his farm, living in Ringgold county the remainder of his life, except five years spent near Sharon, Kansas.

For 26 years he was drayman at Redding. This work he greatly enjoyed. Being with his many friends, he never tired of his work; was always cheerful, with a smile on his face, always looking on the bright side of life and doing everything possible for his neighbors and friends.

He was the father of three children, one little son dying in infancy and the oldest daughter, Mary Eva WORTHINGTON, dying in 1907, caused one great sorrow of his life from which he never fully recovered. The youngest daughter, Grace NORRIS was with her father constantly day and night, during his long illness and was on great comfort to him as he often remarked to his many friends who came to visit him. How his face would lighten up with a smile as he extended his hand to welcome them. There is left to mourn his loss his dear invalid wife, the daughter, Grace NORRIS, one granddaughter, Mrs. Grace SCHANEMANN, and three little great granddaughters; two brother, M. E. SCONCE of Bethany, Ill., W. F. SCONCE of Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. L. E. RONEY of Harper, Kansas, and numberless friends and neighbors.

How this dear husband and father will be missed the Lord only knows. Through his long suffering he never complained, always cheerful and ready to meet his Savior.

"Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfares past;
The battles fought, the race is run
And thou art crowned at last."

Card of Thanks.

We wish to thank all the neighbors and friends for their kindness and help during this illness and at the time of the death of our dear husband and father.--Mrs. J. H. SCONCE, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. NORRIS, Mr. and Mrs. William SCHANEMANN.
