OBITUARY ~ CLARA BELL (CRITCHFIELD) SCADDEN

Clara Bell (CRITCHFIELD) SCADDEN was born in Boyd County, Nebraska Aug. 29 1903. She was the oldest of three children born to Michael and Maude CRITCHFIELD, and died Jan. 27, 1987 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa at the age of 83 years, four months and 27 days.

Clara lived most of her life, but five years, in South Dakota and Nebraska.

She was united in married to Ben SCADDEN on Jan. 8, 1922. To this union seven children were born: Loreen REED, Kellerton, Iowa, Wanda GRIMM, Gibbon, Nebraska, Everett SCADDEN, Winner, South Dakota, Maxine JONAS, Winner, South Dakota, and Larry SCADDEN, Jefferson, South Dakota.

After an illness Clara came to live with one of her granddaughters, Judy and Melvin DOOLITTLE, with the aid of all her other relatives to care for Clara.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; two sons, Leonard Warren and Carol Eugene, and one granddaughter, Connie GRIMM.

She is survived by her five children; three sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; one sister, Opal LEIGHTON of Winner, South Dakota; one brother, Harold CRITCHFIELD of Yankton, South Dakota; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildre and many great-great-grandchildren, by whom she was dearly loved.

Funeral services were held January 30, 1987 from the Assembly of God Church at Van Wert, Iowa, conducted by Rev. James BOOTH. Music was provided by Merna GERE, Bonnie ROSS and Ronnie and Donnie ROSS.

Casketbearers were Rick ROSS, Rod HOLMES, Mike STARK, Billy STARK, Brian KELLY and Kenneth SMITH. Burial was in the Van Wert Cemetery at Van Wert, Iowa.
