OBITUARY ~ WILBUR FREDRICK SAVILLE

Wilbur Fredrick, eldest child of John Silas and Carrie Florence OLIVER SAVILLE, was born May 4, 1899 near Redding, Iowa, and departed this life on Sunday, April 21, 1985, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 17 days.

He was a resident of Clearview Nursing Home from July 30, 1977, until the time of his death. All of his life was spent in Ringgold County.

On September 28, 1921, he was united in marrige to Mamie L. WALLACE. They were privileged to share 58 years together before her death on December 17, 1979.

He was employed by the Iowa State Highway Commission and by Ringgold County on road maintenance work, until his retirement in 1963. One of his most treasured momentoes was a letter of commendation from the governor for his dedicated service during the blizzard of 1936.

Wilbur was a member of the Redding United Methodist church.

He is survived by his six children and their mates: Mary and Lyle CAVIN of Blockton; Robert and Ruth SAVILLE of Delphos; Richard and Jackie SAVILLE of Wathena, Kansas; Dorothy and Sam STEPHENS of Pueblo, Colorado; Frank and Cathy SAVILLE of Harrisonville, Missouri; and Nazel and Howard NEWMAN of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Other survivors include: his brother, Cecil and his wife Lena, of Mount Ayr; three sisters and their husbands: Jessie and Loren TRULLINGER of Mount Ayr, Ola and Lloyd W. RIDGE of Grant City, Missouri and Vera Alice and Lyle BUSS of Red Oak, Iowa. Also left to cherish his memory are 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, three brothers: Emerson, Howard and Kermit, one granddaughter, Lyla Sue (CAVIN) MAXWELL, and one step-great-grandson, Sammy HUGHES.

He was a hard-working, honest man, who raised a large family during and following the Depression and war times. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and was a true friend with a wonderful sense of humor.

Services were held at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Thursday, April 25, 1985. Officiating was Rev. Ed KAIL. Music was provided by Mike Greene, Mrs. Gary BICKERS and Mrs. Roger TRULLINGER.

Casketbearers were Kyle NEWMAN, Kevin NEWMAN, Dennis CAVIN, John MAXWELL, Howard JOHNSON and Elvin WAUGH, Jr. Burial was in the Redding Cemetery, Redding, Iowa.

Visitors in the Robert SAVILLE home last week due to the death of his father, Wilbur SAVILLE, were Mr. and Mrs. Sam STEPHENS of Pueblo, Colol, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle CAVIN of Blockton, Mr. and Mrs. Marion HUGHES of Trenton, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Howard NEWMAN, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin NEWMAN, Kyle NEWMAN, Mr. and Mrs. Gilber HOWELL, all of Rapid City, S.D., Mrs. Vicky BURSON and Rick SAVILLE of Glenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Ed BRYAN of Des Moines, Howard BRYAN of Mount Ayr, Mr. and Mrs. Frank SAVILLE of Harrisonville, Mo., Howard JOHNSON and John MAXWELL of Clarinda.
