OBITUARY - FLORENCE MODESSA "FLOSSIE" (ELLIOTT) SACKETT
Florence Modessa 'Flossie' ELLIOTT was born April 9, 1888 in Rice Township, Ringgold, Iowa, the daughter of
Alamando Wilcox "Al" and Emma Ona (RUSH) ELLIOTT.
She taught in the country school across the road from
the Eureka Church in Rice Township, Ringgold County, Iowa. She was married to Alfred Earl SACKETT (1889-1972) on December 8 Dec 1909, in Rice Township, Ringgold, Iowa,
and three sons were born to this union, one dying in infancy.
She resided on her parents' home place for over
40 years, before moving to Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr on June 17, 1984.
This strong willed lady enjoyed life intensely up to the month before she died
quietly in her sleep, failing rapidly her last month. She was proud of the facilities where she was residing in the last
months of her life. She died at the age of 96 years, 4 months and 29 days
on September 8, 1984. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
Surviving are her two sons, Burl Elton (Grace Elizabeth BUTT) SACKETT and Lyle Elliott (Ramona Arlene SMITH) SACKETT;
grandchildren, Elton Earl (Lyndall Lue MONDAY) SACKETT, Barbara Kay (SACKETT) (Robert Irving) ALLEN,
Betty Fay (SACKETT) (James Douglas "Jim") DENHART, Keith Russell (Nancy Ann BRYANT) SACKETT, Donna Lynn (SACKETT)
(Dennis Lee) STEPHENS, and Andy Lee (Lisa GRAY) SACKETT,
Larry Joe (Louise Ann BURCHETT) SACKETT, James Roger "Jim" (Linda Elaine SCHNITZLER), Janet Elaine (SACKETT)
(William Patrick) KANE, and Joyce Kay (SACKETT) (James Allen) MOORE.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Paul Elton and Melia Beth SACKETT,
Kerri Lynn, Michael David, Kelly Jo, and Douglas Robert ALLEN, Scott James, Andrea Kay, and Rachel Ann DENHART,
Jill Elizabeth, Julie Ann, and Thomas Russell SACKETT, Jennifer Lynn, Timothy Aaron, Deborah Marie STEPHENS, Andrew David,
Aaron Andrew, Adam Jeffrey, and Shania Lee SACKETT,
Randy Joe and Laurie Suzanne SACKETT,
Michael James, Daniel William "Danny", and Dennis Patrick SACKETT, David Patrick and Jennifer Beth KANE, Jeffrey Michael,
Wendy Jo, and Ronald James MOORE.
A son, Paul Albert SACKETT died in infancy May 2, 1918. [complications from whooping cough, measles and pneumonia].

OBITUARY ~ FLORENCE "FLOSSIE" (ELLIOTT) SACKETT
Florence "Flossie" SACKETT, oldest child of Almando W. and Emma O. RUSH ELLIOTT, was born April 9, 1888, in Rice
Township and passed away September 8, 1984, at the age of 96 years, five months and 29 days, at the Clearview Home in
Mount Ayr, which is located on land formerly the site of the home of her mother and father.
Flossie lived her entire life
in Ringgold County with the exception of a few months in Oregon and Colorado. Her great-grandfathers, the Rev. William
MARK and the Rev. A. S. ELLIOTT were pioneer Methodist ministers in Iowa and Ringgold County. Flossie's lifetime church
associations were with the Eureka Church, Fry Chapel and the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr.
She attended school
in Crow Point and taught several terms in various rural schools.
On December 8, 1909, she was united in marriage with A. E.
(Alfie) SACKETT and they were privileged to share 62 years together. Of this union were born three sons: Burl, Paul
and Lyle. They also reared a grandson, Larry.
She faithfully cared for Alfie in their later years and they enjoyed
having family and friends visit. During her lifetime she was a seamstress for many people, crocheted numerous afghans, lace, and doilies,
and quited many beautiful quilts.
She enjoyed her garden, most especially her flowers.
She was a member of the
Tuesday Club and the Royal Neighobors of America.
Flossie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfie; infant son,
Paul; brothers, Rees and Mark ELLIOTT; sisters, Gladys KEENAN and Alice TERWILLIGER; and infant great-grandsons, Andrew and
Survivors include: son, Burl, and wife, Grace, of Mount Ayr; and Lyle of Braddyville; a sister, Hazel MOORE of
Creston; and a sister-in-law, Ilah ELLIOTT of Clearview Home; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Twice in Flossie's lifetime, there were five generations of family; first in 1962 and again in 1983.
She is also survived
by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held on September 11, 1984, at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home,
conducted by Pastor Doris KINTON. Music was provided by Elaine WILLIS and Joan NOBLE. Casketbearers were Randy SACKETT,
Paul SACKETT, Loren ELLIOTT, Lee KEENAN, Dennis STEPHENS and Richard RUCKMAN. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount
