Bert A. Routh, the son of James William and Mary Jane (Jennie) Yarde Routh,
was born October 12, 1898 at Alexis, Illinois. He died Friday, January 16 at
Bert moved with his family at the age of eight to the farm northeast of
Clearfield, Iowa which became known as the Routh family farm. He was united in
marriage with Pearl E. England at Creston June 14, 1919. Bert continued to
the Clearfield vicinity making his home on the same farm for forty-nine years
before retiring and moving to Lenox.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Frank, Fred and Glen;
and two sisters, Lola Tindle and Nettie Tindle.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl; a daughter, Bernadine Lavone Ecklin and
husband J. E. of Diagonal; four grandchildren.
Johnny and Jerry of Clearfield, Judy of Creston, and Joan Mattes and husband,
Stanley of Bedford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Lenox on Sunday, January
18 at 2 p.m. with Revere Reverend W. C. Trembly officiating. Norma Paymal was
the organist and Darl Bell the soloist.
Casket bearers were Delbert Weeda, Jack Gourley, Floyd Frame, Gerald Maharry,
Russell Davenport, and Marvin Wyer.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, Iowa.
Varner-Watson Funeral Home of Clearfield was in charge of arrangements.
