OBITUARY ~ HENRIETTA "ETTA" (VOTAVA) ROOD

Henrietta (Etta) Rood was born on Dec. 23, 1929 in Omaha, Nebr. to Louis and Louise Mains Votava and passed away April 25. 1978 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield where she had been taken that morning.

At an early age she moved with her family to a farm north of Clearfield. She graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1947.

On June 21, 1952 she was united in marriage to Jim Rood. To this union was born one daughter Sheila. They have made their home in Richland, Ia. for the past nine years where Mr. Rood is Supt. of Schools at Pekin of Packwood. Etta was a teacher at the Pleasant Plain Elementary School in the Fairfield School District.

She was a member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church and belonged to the Saturday Bridge club of Richland. She was a member of the Honorary Scholarship Society of Parsons College, Fairfield where she had college work and of the Phi Cappa Phi Honorary Society.

She is survived by her husband, Jim and daughter Sheila, a senior at N.E.M.S.C. at Kirksville, Mo. Also two brothers, Jim Votava of Clearfield, Louis Votava of Diagonal, and three sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Blanche) Fillipi of Thurston, Nebr. Mrs. Paul (Mary Lou) England of Clearfield, and Mrs. Alice Sediak of Omaha, Nebr. nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Etta was a devoted wife and mother and a true friend to all who knew her. Her work as a teacher was a joy to her and each pupil was special to her. She taught as long as her health permitted and was teaching half days until two weeks prior to her death. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Scriptural wake service was held at the Varner Funeral Home in Clearfield on Thur. at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox with Rev. Fr. Tim Fitzgerald officiating.

Casketbearers were Dick Conklin, Dick Caughlan, Bradley Young, and Jerry Horton of Richland. la.. Sam Merrill of Kellerton, la. and J. Ira Ryan of Eddyville, la. Interment was at the Clearfield Cemetery.

A Memorial Service Mass was held on Monday. May 1, at 9:00 a.m. at the Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland with Rev. Fr. Glenn Fuegen officiating.

A memorial fund has been established for cancer research.
