OBITUARY ~ LOIS JEAN "GAMMY" RISINGER
April 7, 1928 ~ June 18, 2012

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Mrs. Lois Jean "Grammy" Risinger, 84, who died Monday, June 18, 2012 at Cornestone Villiage South Nursing Home in Lafayette.

Private interment will follow at a later date in Fountain Memorial Cemetery iN Lafayette.

Rev. Susan Ferguson, Associate Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will officiate.

Lois was born Saturday, April 7, 1928 in Kellerton, Iowa and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. Lois attended A & I College in Kingsville, TX together with her high school sweetheart and only love, the late Russell Carter "Gampy" Risinger. Lois and Russell married in 1947 and began their 63-year legacy of love in TX starting with high school, college, raising a family and Russell's career. They eventually relocated to Rayne for 12 years, and later moved to Lafayette in 1971. Lois graduated from USL, now LU-Lafayette, with a Bachelor's Degree in nursing and worked for the State of LA for over 27 years until retirement. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette.

Lois was passionate about her nursing and was the nursing supervisor for the Lafayette Parish Health Unit for several years. A well-traveled woman, she also served as a past Matron of the Eastern Star. Lois loved to shop and find a good bargain and was quite delighted with QVC. She enjoyed listening to Willie Nelson and going to her camp at Toledo Bend. A loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she most treasured spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Risinger is survived by her beloved daughters, Cynthia Risinger and her fiance' Steve Johnson of Lafayette and Debbie Risinger Scallan and her fiance' Hamilton Boudoin, of Lafayette and LaPlace; five grandchildren, Alison Alleman and her husband, Mat, of Lafayette, Russell "Rusty" W. Harris, of Pensacola, FL, Laurie Harris Jones and her husband, Brad, of Wichita, KS, Rachel Scallan Davis and her husband, Jordan, also of Lafayette, and Carrie Scallan, of Metarie; five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Lauren Jones, Nathan Harris and Lucas and Nicholas Alleman; her only sibling and dear sisters, Nancy Jacob of Kingston, NY; her best friend Roma Grinnell of Lafayette; numerous dear nieces, nephews and other friends; and her beloved Pekingese Sammy and big fat cat Cracker Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell Carter "Gampy" Risinger; and her parents, George W. Mosbarger and the former Lois Mae Combs.

Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and resumes Friday, June 22, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Acadiana, Cornertone Village South Nursing Home and Lois' church family at Asbury United Methodist Church for the compassion and care exended to Lois and her family.
