OBITUARY ~ PAUL LEROY RICE

Paul Leroy RICE of Corvallis, Oregon died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 80.

He was born September 24, 1021, to Douglas (Chub) and Minnie MINNICK RICE in Kellerton, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Clearfield, Iowa. He worked in a farming partnership with his father and brother until being drafted during World War II. He served in the European Theatre and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Corporal in 1945. After the service he worked in a farming partnership with his father and brother.

He married Sadie C. GARITY April 12, 1947 in Maloy, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa for 16 years before moving to Corvallis in December 1962. He worked for a builder hanging drywall until 1964. At that time he began working at the u.S. Post Office as a letter carrier. He retired in 1983. After retirement he and Sadie worked occasionally for the Benton County Election Board. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Corvallis.

Survivors include his daughter, Sheila Marie WONS of Orlando, Florida; sisters, Opal GOODALE of Diagonal, Iowa, Charlotte CUNNING of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Betty BROOKS in Washington and Jorene BLEVINS in Missouri; brother Lewis (Mike) RICE of Lenox, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sadie.

Recitation of the rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2002 at McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis led by Deacon Francis POTTS. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2002 at Saint Mary's Church. Father Angel PEREZ will officiate. Burial will follow at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to Benton Hospice Service in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 NW 5th St., Corvallis, OR 97330.
