OBITUARY ~ MERRIL THOMAS REYNOLDS

Merril Thomas Reynolds of North Hollywood, Calif., passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 1991, at Kaiser-Permanente Hospital, Panorama City, Calif., after a lengthy illness. He was 69 years old.

Merril was born on July 26, 1921 near Lenox, Iowa, the son of Clarence Guy Reynolds and Bessie Hughes Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Corrine Calkins.

Merril was united in marriage to Evelyn Jeanes, his high school classmate on May 9, 1941. To this union two children were born: Richard Guy and Linda Margaret.

He attended Central College at Pella and Iowa State University at Ames and was a member of Masonic Noble Lodge 458, A.F. and A.M. at Clearfield, Iowa for 44 years.

Mr. Reynolds was a veteran of World War II serving from June 1942 to October 1945 with the 79th Infantry Division, Headquarters Battery, Artillery Division; participating in the landing at Utah Beach. He was in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and was awarded the Bronze star for meritorious achievement.

Merril retired as a master carpenter after working in construction for over 50 years. He had a lifelong interest in the Boy Scouts, enjoyed woodworking and raising tropical birds.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. January 16, 1991 at the Methodist Church in Clearfield, Iowa, Rev. Shirley Lockard officiating. Interment with military honors was at the Clearfield Cemetery.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn; son Richard and wife Jacque of Carpinterie, Calif.; daughter Linda of Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren Karen Lyn Nemeth of Ventura, Calif.; Larisa Margaret Erb, Lacey Elizabeth Erb and Lane Allen Erb of Boulder, Colo.; a great grandson Tyler Reynolds Nemeth of Ventura, Calif.; and stepmother Jessie Reynolds of Clearfield, Iowa.

His family and loved ones will remember him as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Memorials may be made to the Taylor County Historical Museum, Bedford, Iowa.
