OBITUARY ~ ROLAND JAMES "JIMMIE" REDMAN

Roland James "Jimmie" REDMAN, son of George Castle REDMAN and Carrie Ann (SMITH) REDMAN, was born July 19, 1916 at home in Decatur county. He passed from this life on October 17, 2008 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon at the age of 92 years.

Jimmie graduated from Van Wert high school in 1934 and was a very well-known farmer and cattleman in Clarke and Decatur counties. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Elizabeth (Betty) COCHRAN at the Van Wert Christian Church parsonage on April 9, 1939. He and Betty have lived all of their married life on teh family farm where Jimmie was born.

Jimmie was very active in Van Wert activities, the Community Club, the Saddle Club and a 4-H leader. He was a member of the Van Wert Methodist Church and served on the church board.

Jimmie enjoyed raising and showing American Saddlebred horses and Angus cattle. He enjoyed playing cards and pool. He and Betty loved to travel and have been to all 50 states and Canadian provinces. His greatest joy was time with family, especially teaching and "teasing" the grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carrie REDMAN; sisters, Margaret (Peggy) WATSON, Louise PERRY, Viola CHASTAIN and infant sister, Hazel Virginia; brothers, Jack and Harry REDMAN; brothers-in-law, Clyde WATSON, Kenneth PERRY, Ware CHASTAIN, Charlie JOHNSON, Chet PASCHALL, Jay DOUTHITT and Don COCHRAN and sisters-in-law, Irene and Florence REDMAN, Leota JOHNSON, Hope PASCHALL and Lib COCHRAN.

He leaves with very special memories and love, his wife, Betty, at home; son, Roland Jon REDMAN of Weldon, Iowa; daughter, Kari Jean (Victor) GUTIERREZ of Williken, Colorado; son, Frederick James REDMAN of Earlham, Iowa; daughter, Rebecca Joyce (Alan) TAYLOR of Mount Ayr, Iowa; 21 grandchildren, Rocinda GREEN, Rolanda REDMAN, Rochelle (Jeremy) CHOCHRAN, Vicci (Ray) CARSON, John (Debbie) SULLIVAN, Kimberly (Dean) FENN, Kendall (Doeen) REDMAN, Lezlie CAREY, Chad (Stacy) REDMAN, Ryan (Cindy) REDMAN, Erikka (Tim) BOUSKA, Jordan REDMAN, Andrew (Linda) REDMAN, Danielle REDMAN, Malori REDMAN, Erick WILLIAMS, Sean WILLIAMS, Nick WRIGHT, Bryson WRIGHT, Amber TAYLOR and Bob (Lori) TAYLOR; 22 great-grandchildren, Paula (Dustin) GREEN, Kelli (Nicholas) CHASE, Jacob (Elena) SNOOK, Joshua COCHRAN, Erin COCHRAN, Logan COCHRAN, Susan (Daniel) SANCHEZ, Travis CARSON, Jamie SULLIVAN, Jared SULLIVAN, Ty REDMAN, Kyle REDMAN, Cody REDMAN, Dezi CAREY, Zach REDMAN, Jack REDMAN, Reagan REDMAN, Brett TAYLOR, Kylee TAYLOR and Maisie YEAGER; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris DOUTHITT; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Clayton and Midge COCHRAN, and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Rev. Lyle BALL of the Van Wert Methodist Church officiating.

Interment was in the Decatur Cemetery in Decatur City, Iowa. Kale Funeral Home of Osceola handled arrangements.
