OBITUARY ~ JAMES D. NELSON
April 26, 1933 ~ September 17, 2005
James D. NELSON, 72, of Oskaloosa, and formerly of Melcher-Dallas, died Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the Mahaska
Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born April 26, 1933 in Polk County, Minnesota, the son of Alvin B. and Orla Belinda
CONZEMIUS NELSON. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and later in the Army Reserves and the Iowa
On August 20, 1965, Jim was married to Doloris R. BLACK at Des Moines. They lived at Melcher-Dallas from
August, 1968, until recently moving to Oskaloosa. He worked at the John Deere Ankeny Works for 27 years, retiring in 1993.
His life centered on his family, and he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and mushroom hunting.
His family includes his wife, Doloris R. NELSON of Oskaloosa; 4 daughters: Denise (& Tom) NORD, Sandra (& Chris) SANDERS,
and Orla (& Tom) STODGHILL, all of Oskaloosa, and Belinda NELSON of Iowa City; 5 grandchildren: Alan and Sarah SANDERS,
Logan and Joshua NORD, and Olivia Stodghill; a brother: Deane (& Dolores) NELSON of Des Moines; 2 sisters: Lois PERRY of
Des Moines and Marge BLACKBURN of Portland, Oregon; a step-sister: Margaret HOGLAN of West Plains, Missouri; and his
step-mother: Ethel NELSON of West Plains, Missouri.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a step-brother: Johnny NELSON.
Graveside services and burial for Jim NELSON will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Ellston Cemetery at Ellston, Iowa, with
the Reverend Paul SEPTER officiating. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Emmett Liles Post 541 of
the American Legion of Ellston.
Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa on Monday after 2 p.m.,
and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday from 6:30 - 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
