OBITUARY ~ DANA ARLENE (BROWN) NAHKUNST, 86, of HAMBURG

Hamburg, Iowa Dana Arlene BROWN NAHUNST, 86, of Hamburg died at the Ambassador in Sidney Dec. 29, 2011. She was born on March 6, 1925 at the Hamburg Hospital to Maureen K. (McMUNN) and Hubert L. BROWN.

She attended Sunnyside Country School then Hamburg High School, graduating in 1941. She attended the University of Iowa then Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, graduating in 1947 with a BA degree in education.

On March 14, 1948, she married Robert E. NAHKUNST.

She was a loving, and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Dana taught school for 10 years in Mt. Ayr, Sidney and Hamburg in Iowa before leaving education to raise her family. She returned to teaching in 1966 and taught in Union for one year before teaching 24 years at Northside Elementary School in Nebraska City, retiring in 1991. Dana taught different grades but second grade was always her favorite. Dana lived most of her life on the family farm which has been in the family since 1854.

She enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steele book, and traveling the country on bus trips.

She is survived by children Gary NAHKUNST of Hamburg, Kathy (Joe) BELL of Indianola and Jim (Carla) NAHKUNST of Hamburg; grandchildren Colin NAHKUNST, Bradley NAHKUNST, Alisha (Matt) SEELEY, Clayton BELL and Marcus FERRY; great-grandchildren Lilliana SEWARD and Nash SEELEY; and other family and friends.

She was preceded by husband Robert E. NAHKUNST and grandson Andrew BELL.

Funeral services were Jan. 2 at the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg with Rev. Jim Young officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Hamburg.

Pallbearers were Greg WARDEN, Bob WOLEMATH, Clayton BELL, Joe BELL, Colin NAHKUNST and Bradley NAHKUNST. Kelli WOLTEMATH attended the memorial book.
