OBITUARY - FLOYD LEROY ROSS

July 3, 1918 - January 1, 2010

Floyd LeRoy ROSS was born July 3, 1918 in Creston, Iowa. He is the last remaining child of Mack and Clara (OLSON) ROSS.

Floyd graduated from Lenox high school in 1938. Later that year he was united in marriage to Lola REED. To this union three daughters were born, Juanita, Sharon and Betty. When Joyce (HOOTEN) HAYES was in high school, she joined the family and remained with them until she graduated. She is still considered one of the family.

Floyd and Lola owned and operated a feed store in Lenox for several years. Floyd moved to the Saint Joseph-Kansas City, Missouri area in the early 1960s where he worked at gas stations and restaurants. In 1972 he rode his horse, Miss Kitty, from Troy, Kansas to Lenox, Iowa to attend the Lenox Rodeo.

In 1972 Floyd was married to Bernice (DYKES) McCLELLAN. They lived in the Lenox area where he worked at Barren’s Elevator. Later they moved to Ellston where they lived on a small acreage and raised goats, rabbits and produce.

Floyd was a lover of all animals. He loved his goats but his greatest passion was his horses. Even in his later years he loved a leisurely ride on his horse, Rosie.

Floyd departed this life on January 1, 2010 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield, Iowa.

He is survived by his daughters, Juanita BROWN and husband Johnny of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sharon BROWN of Clearfield, Iowa and Betty STILL of Mount Ayr, Iowa; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, July 5, at the Oliver Cemetery south of Ellston, Iowa with Rev. Tim MAXA officiating. Mr. ROSS was cremated and there is no viewing or visitation prior to the services. Memorials are to the Lenox Saddle Club. Arrangements are through Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.
