OBITUARY - MRS. ASA S. RAINS.

Rains gravestone.jpg Rachel MILLSAP was born in Decatur county, Iowa, February 28, 1856, and departed this life at Boulder, Colo., at 7 p.m. Monday, August 8m 1927, aged 71 years, five months and 21 days.

At the age of nine years she came to Ringgold county where she spent the remainder of her life. On Thanksgiving day, 1874, she was united in marriage with Asa S. RAINS and to this union five children were born - [Mary Louetta S.] Etta CHEERS, Arispe, Iowa; George [Elmon] RAINS, Nebraska City, Neb.; James [Clyde] RAINS, Tingley, Iowa; Alta U. BENSON, Boulder, Colo.; [Lura Mae] Lena INGRAM, Afton, Iowa. Besides the children she leaves to mourn her death her husband, one brother, James MILLSAP, and three sisters, Henrietta ALLOWAY, Sarah ALLOWAY and Louise MARSHALL.

Mrs. RAINS had gone to Boulder to visit her daughter when she was stricken very suddenly and her death came as a sad blow to the husband and children and to the many other relatives and friends, all of whom loved her dearly.

When a young girl she was converted and joined the Methodist church and was faithful to the end.

The funeral was held at the home Saturday, August 13, at two o'clock p. m. and was conducted by Rev. T. S. RHOADES. The body was laid to rest in the Benton cemetery.

For the many kindnesses, expressed inthe loving sympathy and the helpful acts by neighbors and friends in our sore bereavement we are profoundly grateful, and we take this means of expressing to all our sincere thanks.
ASA S. RAINS AND CHILDREN.

NOTE: Asa Shin RAINS, husband of Rachel (MILLSAP), was born in Madison County, Indiana on January 1, 1851, the son of Allen RAINS (1809-1900) and Mary Elizabeth (HARDMAN) RAINS (1814-1854), and died April 8, 1950 in Ringgold County, Iowa with interment at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa. James Clyde, son of Rachel (MILLSAP) and Asa S. RAINS, was born July 18, 1881, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. He married Julia Elizabeth ZIKE and they became the parents of five children: Vera Mae RAINS, William Asa RAINS, Leo WAYNE RAINS, Zelma Ulzada RAINS, and John Ezra RAINS. James Clyde RAINS died September 21, 1949, Benton, and was interrred at Benton Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa. Julia Elizabeth (ZIKE), wife of James Clyde RAINS, was born in Ringgold County on March 5, 1884, the daughter of William M. ZIKE (1834-1914) and Harriet May (POOR) ZIKE (1845-1918). Julia died at Afton, Union County, Iowa, on December 10, 1964 and was interred beside her husband at Benton Cemetery.

Leo Wayne RAINS, Sr., son of James Clyde and Julia Elizabeth (ZIKE) RAINS, was born in Benton, Ringgold County on November 24, 1907, and died August 21, 1980, Des Moines Polk County, Iowa, with interment at Pine Hill Cemetery, Des Moines. Leo married 1st on August 15, 1927 to Zellma Elizabeth TRISLER (1908-1974) and seven children were born to this marriage: James Frederick, Faith Eva, Wayne Arthur, Blayne Alden, Dale Eldon, Julie Adaline, Clinton Asa, and Joyce Carol RAINS. Zellma Elizabeth (TRISLER) was born at Ellston, Ringgold County on October 10, 1908, the daughter of Reuben Fredrick TRISLER (1884-1964) and Harriet Jane (GOFF) TRISLER (1882-1921). Zellma married 2nd May 23, 1946 to David Christopher STERLING (1896-1974). Zellma died November 13, 1974 at Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana with interment at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois.

Leo Wayne RAINS married 2nd Violet Mae FREEMAN (1932-?) with six children born to this marriage: Leo Wayne Jr., Vera Violet, Ulzada, Julia, Elizabeth, and Joseph RAINS.

Dale Eldon, son of Leo Wayne RAINS and Zellma Elizabeth (TRISLER), was born July 31, 1934 at Redding, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died January 28, 1936, Diagonal, with interment at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa.
