Ringgold Record, 1884
Died - At his residence near Delphos, Ringgold county, Iowa, March 4, 1884, of lung fever, in the 44th year of his age, Mr.
X. T. PRENTICE (sic, should be PRENTIS).
Brother PRENTIS was a native of Ohio and moved to this county [from Indiana as a country school master] about three years ago, with his family. As
a citizen and a neighbor he was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a loving husband and kind father, his home was
always full of sunshine. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church for over twenty years. His funeral services were
conducted at his home, by Rev. P. ANDREWS, in the presence of a large number of friends and neighbors. His remains were
then conveyed to the depot at Delphos and brought to Mt. Ayr on the train, and laid away to rest in the [Rose Hill] cemetery
at that place. He leaves behind him a wife and three children to mourn his loss. He leaves behind him an influence for good.
"The memory of the just is blessed."
NOTE: Xavier T. PRENTIS was born in 1841. His wife Rebecca (GLASIER) PRENTIS was born in 1839, and
died November 6, 1884 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Xavier and Rebecca were the parents of
Glasier Edwards PRENTIS (1867-1936), Dr. Percy Lucius PRENTIS (1879-1928), and Ada Gertrude (PRENTIS) BEASLEY (1872-1948).
