DEATH OF L. C. PRATT

L. C. PRATT, a prominent citizen of Lotts Creek township, died Sunday morning. The funeral was conducted yesterday afternoon from the Advent Christian church at Hickory Grove. The following obituary notice was furnished by his pastor:

"Levi Clark PRATT was born October 13, 1837, at Craftsbury, [Oleans Co.] Vermont. His father and mother both died before he was two years of age. He was married March 12, 1865, to Sarah GOODALL in Morgan county, Ill. To this union were born seven children - five daughters and two sons. Six children survive him, one daughter, Mrs. Peter RUSH, having died August 5, 1895. He was stricken down November 20, 1905, and altho suffering intensely night and day he bore it patiently until the end, which came Sunday morning, August 19, 1906. He was at the time of his death aged 68 years, 10 months, and six days. He united with the A. C. church about 16 years ago, and was a consistent member of the same at the time of his death. He was deeply interested in the Lord's work. The last time he was away from his home he was at a service in this house. Not long ago I talked with Brother PRATT concerning the work here and he said he hoped the brethren would not allow Christian work here to die out. He was conscious until almost the hour of death, and altho life was sweet he did not fear death. In the death of Brother PRATT the community has lost a good and useful citizen, his wife has lost a kind and loving husband and the children a tender and affectionate father. To the family I would say serve God faithfully that you may be reunited on the resurrection morn in the kingdom of God."

Levi's father Clark Mills PRATT was born August 13, 1809, Dunham, Quebec, Canada, the son of Levi PRATT (1785-1920) and Elizabeth "Betsy" (MILLS) PRATT) (1884-1860). He died at the age of 30 from typhoid on December 20, 1839, Craftsbury, Vermont. Clark married Susan COLTON January 5, 1832, Johnson, Lamoille County, Vermont. Susan (COLTON) PRATT, Levi's mother, was born March 7, 1807, Grantham, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, the daughter of Lemuel COLTON (1754-1831) and Lydia Stevens (SHEPARD) (1767-1852). Susan took ill after gathering maple syrup and died at the age of 32 on May 19, 1839, Craftsbury, Vermont. With Clark's death, Levi and his siblings, Mary F. (PRATT) HARVEY (1831-1924) and Cyrus Cornelius (1833-?) became orphans. Their grandmother Elizabeth "Betsy" (MILLS) PRATT ELLINWOOD and her second husband James ELLINWOOD raised Levi, Mary, and Cyrus.

Levi was a farmer and a teacher.
Levi and Sarah were interred at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Middle Fork Township of Ringgold County, Iowa.
