OBITUARY - VERA POWELL

Vera Phyllis POWELL, 84, of Hammond, Ind., formerly of Ozark Acres, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at her home in Hammond. She was born Nov. 29, 1917 in Ringgold County, Iowa, the daughter of the late Phillip Howard MORRIS and Ocea (McDANEL) MORRIS. She was married to William POWELL of Ozark Acres July 2, 1955, in Davenport, Iowa, He preceded her in death Feb. 9, 1978. She was employed for a number of years as a department head clerk at W. T. Grant in Davenport. She was a member of both the Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy and the South Hammond Church of the Nazarene in Hammond, Ind.

Survivors include one daughter, Deanna Jane GRANT of Hammond, Ind.; one son, Dale WEST of Eldridge, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Jerry WEST and Charles Junior WEST; three sisters, and two brothers.

Graveside services were Friday, April 5, 2002 at the Baker Cemetery in Williford, Ark., with Pastor Robert GRANT officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service, Inc. of Hardy.
