Pat was born on Dec. 5, 1931, in Kellerton, Iowa to Lucille TAGGERT and Leo O'GRADY. Following her mother's death in 1934, her father married Eva GRAVIS and the family initially resided in Mitchell [SD], where she attended grade school. Pat also graduated from Black Hills State University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and assisted her husband in their logging business. After Merle retired in 1983, they moved to Gillette, Wyo., for a short time before moving back to Spearfish where she resided until shortly before her death.

Pat was very active in her children's activities throughout their school years, volunteering as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, and assisting her daughters with 4-H activities and crafts. In later years, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
