OBITUARY - PATRICIA L. "PAT" POOL
Patricia 'Pat' L. POOL, 77, Sturgis [SD], passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyo.,
following a lengthy illness.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish with the
Rev. Tim HOAG as celebrant. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. Christian wake services will be at
7 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the
Aldinger Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Spearfish.
Pat was born on Dec. 5, 1931, in Kellerton, Iowa to Lucille TAGGERT and Leo O'GRADY. Following her mother's death in 1934,
her father married Eva GRAVIS and the family initially resided in Mitchell [SD], where she attended grade school.
Throughout the years they moved to Tyndall, Marty and Parkston to maintain employment during the depression.
She moved to the Black Hills in 1947 to help her aunt on the ranch. On Sept. 26, 1954, she married Merle K. POOL. They
bought a home north of Spearfish where they lived for 30 years, raising their five children. Pat also graduated from Black
Hills State University with a bachelor's degree in sociology and assisted her husband in their logging business. After
Merle retired in 1983, they moved to Gillette, Wyo., for a short time before moving back to Spearfish where she resided
until shortly before her death.
Pat was very active in her children's activities throughout their school years, volunteering as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout
leader, and assisting her daughters with 4-H activities and crafts. In later years, she enjoyed spending time with her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include five children, Sharron MALONE, Aurora, Colo., Peggy HUBBARD (Lance), Whitewood, Charles POOL (Colleen),
Gillette, Wyo., Jerry POOL (Lori), Susanville, Calif., and Susan VASQUEZ (Jess), Centennial, Colo.; two sisters; three
brothers; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous special nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild.
A memorial has been established to the Spearfish VFW Post 5860.
