The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1922

OBITUARY - W. C. PINE.

W. Pine gravestone.jpg Walter U. PINE was born near Alexis, Warren county, Ill., June 12, 1861, and in this locality grew to manhood. About 1894 he came to Iowa and settled in Ringgold county, in Grant township, and resided there for eleven years, when he removed to Seymour, Mo., on October 30, 1907. He was united in marriage to Miss Maud POWELL and to this union three children were born. One daughter, Jessie, thirteen years old, Everett, eleven, and Arthur, ten.

The family lived in Missouri for several years, and finally removed back to this county, where he spent the remainder of his four years of life.

Mr. PINE has been failing in health for more than a year, but during his illness complaned (sic) little. Sunday afternoon about 2:30, while talking in his jovial way to Mrs. PINE and his children and laughing, he was stricken with heart disease and suddenly passed away [May 7, 1922]. Besides his loving wife and three children he leaves to mourn his aged mother, one sister, Mrs. Allen MOORE, of Galesburg, Ill., and four brothers, Frank of Sikeston, Mo., Fred, of Galesburg, Ill., J. L. PINE, of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and E. R. PINE, of Diagonal, Iowa.

The funeral service was conducted Wednesday, May 10th from the Benton church, by Rev. S. P. WILLIAMSON, of Mount Ayr, assisted by F. D. AUGUSTINE, of Benton, and the remains were laid in the Benton cemetery.
