OBITUARY - VELMA MARIE (MEESKE) PIMPER
November 22, 1912 - June 2, 2010
Velma PIMPER arrived at her eternal home on June 2, 2010 at the age of 97 years.
Velma Marie PIMPER, eldest child of Alfred and Lydia (HOHENSEE) MEESKE was born on November 22, 1912 near Daykin,
Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed in Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Daykin. She graduated in 1930 from Fairbury
high school in Fairbury, Nebraska and taught rural schools #102 and #72 in Jefferson county, Nebraska.
Velma married Roy W. PIMPER of Ohiowa, Nebraska on May 24, 1933 at Saint John's Lutheran Church, Daykin, Nebraska by Rev.
Henry BROKERING. Their first home was a farm west of Ohiowa. In 1940 they moved to a farm near Pocahontas, Iowa. After
living at many locations throughout their married life, they moved to Mount Ayr in January 1971 where they managed the
Clinton Motel for five years.
Velma was a homemaker and had other employment during her lifetime. They had no children but made a home for several years
for a young niece, Marilyn MEESKE, as well as Roy’s half-sister Anne, and father, Peter PIMPER. Their home was always open
to friends and relatives. They moved to Afton, Iowa in 1986 and lived there for 13 years. Roy and Velma were blessed to
spend 66 years together before death claimed Roy on November 13, 1999. Velma moved to Mount Ayr following her husband's
death and lived there 10 months. In the fall of 2000, Velma's health began failing and she entered the hospital and then
a nursing home in Ames, Iowa. In December 2000, she moved to Lebensraum Assisted Living in Grand Island, Nebraska to be
near her niece, Carla NISPEL and family. In February 2007 she moved to Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island until her
Velma’s hobbies were collecting dolls and letter writing. She enjoyed corresponding with a host of friends and relatives.
She was a member of the "1912 Limited Club" which consisted of 200 lady members from all over the United States.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Verda DAUPHIN, and only brother Lawrence.

Funeral services were held on June 7 at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, Iowa with Kleine Funeral Home in
Grand Island, Nebraska in charge of the arrangements.
