OREN VICTOR PARKHURST

September 25, 1877 - June 17, 1939

This husband and father always assumed his share of duties assigned him here, and while his was an unassuming life, he was one of whom one could depend and was regarded as a loyal friend and neighbor. He loved the great outdoors and spent his leisure time fishing and hunting. He was adept at swimming and had saved the lives of three companions who would have drowned had he not come to their rescue.

He was united with the Baptist Church at Riverview, seven miles south of Davis City, Iowa, when a young man and later transferred his membership to the U.B. Church at Arrington, seven miles west of Eagleville, MO where he retained it until his death.

"Vic," as he was known by his many friends, was the son of William and Frances PARKHURST and was born in Decatur County Iowa September 25, 1867. He united in marriage with Lottie Mae HULLINGER September 30, 1900 and to this union were born 18 children. Five preceded him in death. His mother, Mrs. Frances FOOTE, survives him and resides in Davis City, IA. His companion also survives and the 13 living children are: Marion Victor, Stanberry, MO; Bertha (Mrs. Nate WILLIS), Wilma (Mrs. Leroy FOSDICK), Grace (Mrs. Dean HALE), Floyd Leroy and Garland Wayne, Eagleville, MO; Orville Ray and Clarence Howard, Hatfield, MO; Cora Mae (Mrs. William RHODES), Leon IA; and Ethel and Lucille of the home.

He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nate WILLIS, Saturday, June 17, at the age of 61 years, eight months and 12 days.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. Church of Eagleville June 18, at 1:30 pm, conduced by an old-time friend, the Rev. C. WIMPLE of St. Joseph. Beautiful songs were rendered by the Hunsicker Quartet, with Mrs. Ethel COOK at the piano. Pallbearers were his six sons.

All the living children were present at the services.

The body was taken to the Seymour Cemetery near his old home at Akron, for burial.

Besides his immediate family, he is survived by 27 grandchildren, three brothers, Miles, Adel, IA; Billy, Eagleville, MO; and Granville, Davis City, IA; four sisters, Cora HARP, Kellerton, IA; Minnie RHYMER and May STURDEVANT, Seattle. Washington; and Inez TAYLOR, Colorado.
