JUANITA OVERHOLTZER DIES - Afton

Juanita SPRAY OVERHOLTZER, 74, of 201 S. Grant, Afton, passed away Friday at Maxine's Beauty Shop in rural Thayer.

Mrs. OVERHOLTZER was born July 9, 1908 in Grand River to Albert M. and Josephine (GIBSON) SPRAY. She received part of her education in Grand River and graduated from college in Cedar Falls.

She married Lyman C. "Bill" OVERHOLTZER on December 24, 1933 in Leon, Iowa.

She was a retired teacher having taught in Bridgewater, Grand River, Afton and East Union Schools before 1972. She lived for a while in Cherokee and Shannon City before moving to Afton in the 1950's.

Mrs. OVERHOLTZER was a member of the Methodist Church and Afton VFW Auxiliary, the Afton Rebekah Lodge, the Shannon City American Legion Auxiliary and the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of Afton; three sons, Gary D. of Unterentersbock, West Germany, Dennis S. of Albuquerque and Larry H. OVERHOLTZER of Dallas; five grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald SPRAY of Denver, Colo., Dean of Hephzibah, Ga., and Al SPRAY of Horsehoe Bend, Ark.; and two sisters, Mrs. Naomi KERR of Denver, Iowa, and Mrs. Alberta IRELAND of Bardwell, Ky.

A son, Perry A. preceded her in death in 1967.

Services were held on Tuesday at Stroud-Lindsay Funeral Home in Afton with Rev. M. J. WILKINS officiating. Burial was in Grand River Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the family.
