The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1933

OBITUARY - J. E. OVERHOLTZER.

John Eiker OVERHOLTZER was born near Galesburg, Illinois, May 20, 1863, and departed this life November 23, 1933, aged 70 years, six months and three days.

He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1865 and lived on a farm near Grand River. Later he bought his old home place and moved to Ringgold county in 1887.

He was married December 29, 1887, to Elizabeth M. OVERHOLTZER. To this union were born three sons and three daughters. Myrtle preceded her father to the great beyond.

He united with the Christian church in 1926. He served as deacon for several years and was ever a faithful attendant of Sunday school and church services.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife and five children: Mrs. Florence WEEDA of Tingley, Opal WALTERS of Tingley, Floyd Overholtzer of Tingley, Ray OVERHOLTZER of Osceola and Wayne OVERHOLTZER of Tingley; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. A. R. SWITZER, of Grand River, and a brother, James L. OVERHOLTZER, of Grand River; and friends wherever he was known.

He was a true and faithful husband, a kind and loving father, a good neighbor and a true friend. He always had a kind word for everyone, and his sudden death came to the community as a great shock, for he was known and loved by all.

"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth.
Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors;
for their works follow them."

Card of Thanks.

We want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for all the acts of kindness, words of sympathy, and for the profuse and beautiful floral offerings in our sudden bereavement in the passing of our loving husband and father.
- Mrs. J. E. OVERHOLTZER and children.
