MRS. OLIVER, 85, DIES WEDNESDAY AT HOSPITAL HERE

Mrs. Mary T. OLIVER, age 85, the wife of William E. OLIVER of 619 Main Street passed away Wednesday evening, February 1, at a local hospital. Though death came quickly, Mrs. OLIVER had not been in the best of health the past several years. She was born the daughter of Samuel SHELINE and Fannie (HART) SHELINE (sic, should be Frances Jane (KIMBERLING)) in a log cabin in Grundy county, Missouri on March 1, 1875. She was united in marriage to Charles CARMER at Leon, Iowa on December 19, 1894. To this union were born seven children. They came to Grinnell in 1903 and made their home here until Mr. CARMER passed away on March 6, 1928. On October 24, 1936, she was married to Joseph SALTZMAN in Mount Ayr, Iowa; and made her home in that vicinity until Mr. SALTZMAN passed away on February 17, 1945. She then moved to Victor, Iowa and made her home with her son, Samuel CARMER. On April 27, 1947, she was married to William E. OLIVER at Marengo, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. OLIVER made their home in Victor until 1958, when they moved to Grinnell.

Mrs. OLIVER was a member of St. James Lutheran church in Victor.

She is survived by her husband, William E. OLIVER; one sister, Mrs. Laura GILBERT of University Park, Iowa; three children, Mrs. Lawrence (Laura) BALLARD of Grinnell, Samuel CARMER of Peoria, Arizona, and Ralph CARMER of Orange, California; as well as two step-daughters, Mrs. John (Marjorie) RIGBERS of Radcliffe, Iowa and Mrs. Hazel HIMMELL of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.

Mrs. OLIVER was preceded in death by her parents; her previous husbands, Charles CARMER and Joseph SALTZMAN; three daughters who passed away in infancy and a son, Vinton CARMER, who passed away in 1960.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary T. OLIVER, the wife of William E. OLIVER, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. H. W. BIBERDORF, pastor of St. James Lutheran church in Victor, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be made in Hazelwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
