OBITUARY - CARMEN SUE (THOMPSON) CAMPBELL O'BRIEN
Carmen Sue O'BRIEN, 74, of Creston died of cancer Friday, April 8, 2005, at her home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday
April 12 at the First United Methodist Church in Creston. The Rev. Clark FINEHOUT will officiate the service. Burial will
be in Graceland Cemetery at Creston. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m.
today at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. Memorials may be directed to the family or Green Valley Hospice.
Mrs. O'BRIEN, daughter of Bernice C. (McANINCH) and Clarence Bryan "C. B." THOMPSON was born October 20, 1930, in Mount Ayr.
She graduated from Creston High School in 1949. On July 22, 1951, she married Donald Howard CAMPBELL in Osceola. They
divorced May 12, 1962. On October 16, 1965, she married Kelly Thomas O'BRIEN in Lincoln, Neb. They divorced October 22, 1992.
She started work in 1949 at Gits Brothers, doing line work for a number of years and Hy Vee Grocery store as a clerk.
Recently she worked at the Cromwell Tap, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge.
She lived in Creston from 1944-1974 before moving to Pryor, Okla., for 23 years, working for A.P. Green Factory as an
insulation machine operator before owning O'Kelly's Lounge, from which she retired and moved back to Creston in 1996.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Eagles Auxiliary No. 1398, Lakeshore Club, U.T.U. Railroad
Auxiliary, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (N.A.R.V.E.) and Lady Elks. She was in the
first group of women to join the Elks Lodge No. 2320.
Survivors include her son Gregory D. (wife Connie) CAMPBELL of Jefferson City, Mo.; daughter Charme S. (husband Dennis)
NELSON of Lenox; sister Kaye (husband Dean "Bud") BRECKENRIDGE of Tingley; brother Maurice E. "Moe" (wife Marleta "Marti")
THOMPSON of Lewisville, Texas, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law Sharon Kaye CAMPBELL.
