OBITUARY - DAYTON GEORGE NORRIS

Dayton George NORRIS, son of George W. and Ida McCLAIN NORRIS, was born October 17, 1899, near Redding, Iowa, and departed this life on July 8, 1978 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, eight months and 21 days.

He attended country schools in Ringgold County. At an early age he joined the Redding Methodist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the Redding and Kellerton Methodist churches. Dayton was engaged in farming until he became employed at the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr in 1964. There he retired and made his home among his friends and fellow employees.

On April 27, 1927 he was united in marriage to Eunice Ferne SHAFER which whom he was privileged to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary in April of this year. To this union were born five children - Russell of Kellerton, Patricia of Blackfoot, Idaho, LeRoy of Culbertson, Montana, Myron of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Priscilla of Chouteau, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his wife, EUnice, who passed away on June 29 of this year [1978], just nine days prior to his own death; his parents; three brothers, and one sister.

Left to cherish his memory are his five children; three daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Ines DENNEY and Sylvia HANDLEY; one brother, Dean NORRIS; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held july 10 from the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn POTTER officiating. Mike GREENE, organist, accompanied the vocalists, Mrs. Jim JONES and mrs. Leo MORGAN. Casketberares were George NEY, Lyle NORRIS, Larry DENNEY, LeRoy KENNEDY, Steven NORRIS and Merritt DENNEY. Interment was in the Redding Cemetery.
