OBITUARY - MILDRED NICHOLS.

M. NICHOLS gravestone.jpg Mildred Elizabeth, daughter of Vernon D. and Hazel J. NICHOLS, was born March 17, 1916, near Diagonal, and passed away October 9, 1932, at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines, aged 16 years, six months and 22 days. She leaves her bereaved parents, a sister, Vernondine and a brother Franklin, both at home; also one grandmother, Mrs. Florence NICHOLS, of Shannon City; one grandfather, W. B. JONES, of Worden, Mont.; besides many other relatives and friends.

Mildred united with the Methodist church of Shannon City in the spring of 1929, which has always been her church home. She was always an active member of the Standard Bearers.

Her school days were all spent in the Shannon City school and she was accompanied from the beginning by her brother Franklin, they having completed their sophomore year together. As a scholar she always ranked well in her classes.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, October 12, at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. W. L. HAWN officiating. Three girls and three boys, classmates of Mildred's, served as pall bearers, namely: Opal PETRIE, Gordon CUNNINGHAM, Dorothy TUSSEY, Darrell WARNER, Mildred BORLAND and Boyd GIBSON. [Interment was at Oakland a. k. a. Shannon City Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.]

NOTE: Mildred's father, Vernon D. NICHOLS, was born in 1890 and died in 1970. Her mother, Hazel J. NICHOLS, was born in 1892 and died in 1983. They were interred at Oakland a. k. a. Shannon City Cemetery.
