The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1928
OBITUARY - MRS. WILLIAM O. NEWTON.
Jennie Elizabeth, only daughter of Mark and Martha BOOTH, was born near Bradford, Illinois, February 18, 1879, and departed this
life at her home near Kellerton, Iowa, March 22, 1928, at the age of 49 years, one month and four days. On the 18th of February,
1897, she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to William O. NEWTON at Bradford, Ill. In the spring of 1901 they left
Illinois and moved to Spencer, Iowa.
While there their only child, Hazel, was born and they lived there till 1905, when they
came to Decatur, Iowa, and lived one year, then they moved to western Kansas, spending two years on a Kansas homestead. In 1908
they returned to Ringgold county and made their home in the vicinity of Kellerton for twelve years, moving then to Southern Missouri
and later going to Colorado, just returning from there a year ago, when they moved to the present home, six miles southwest of Kellerton.
On the 18th day of November, 1925, she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she never fully recovered, though it never dimmed her
loving, sunny disposition and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances, for to meet her was to love her and she was the friend of all.
She was taken suddenly ill on Tuesday evening, rallying for a short time Wednesday morning, but she soon grew worse again and
passed quietly away to her Savior about five o'clock Thursday evening. All that loving hands could do could not keep her here with her
loved ones so she leaves to mourn her loss her husband, daughter, Mrs. Hazel LEMLEY, who resides near her parents, her aged mother,
Mrs. John CANNY, of Humansville, Mo.; her father having preceded her in death when she was only two and one-half months old;
a step-father, two half-brothers, Will and Henry CANNY, of Humansville, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
As a girl she learned to know her Savior and was a member of the Methodist church in Illinois and after her first illness she
often said she was ready to go to Him whenever He was ready for her. She was very energetic and ambitious and no one wished to be
well and do for her loved ones any more than she and her conversations were often abut the things she would like to do if sher
were only able, but God saw best to call her home so we bow our heads and say, "Not our will but Thine be done."
The funeral services were held Sunday, March 25, at the Methodist church in Kellerton, conducted by Rev. CLARK, pastor of the
church. [Interment at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton.]"A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled,
God in His wisdome has recalled,
The boon His love has given,
And though the body
Her soul is safe in Heaven."
