OBITUARY ~ BERTHA ELIZABETH (GULICK) MONK

Bertha Elizabeth (GULICK) MONK passed away on October 2, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, Colorado at the age of 83, She would have been 84 on October 15.

Bertha was born in Owatonna, Minnesota to Marvin and Dorothy GUILICK. She married Cecil MONK on June 18, 1944 in Maryville, Missouri and resided in Clearfield.

Cecil passed away in 1990 and she moved to Colorado in 1991 to live with her daughters and family. She worked in Mount Ayr at the hat factory for approximately 10 years and at the Clearview Home in Clearfield for 25 years prior to retiring.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn SHAFFER and son-in-law Gary of Lafayette, Colorado and Glenna Kay MONK of Hollywood, California; grandson, David (and Danielle) and great-grandson, Sage; granddaughter, Deborah (and Chad) and great-grandsons, Cody and Devin and grandson, Daniel SHAFFER.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil MONK; father and stepmother, Marvin and Elsie GULICK; mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Glenn WEAVER, and one brother, Marvin GULICK.

Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield on Saturday, October 11, 2008, with Rev. Gerry KAHLER officiating. Musicians were Carol CASON, Mary Ellen SPURRIER and Becky NELSON.

Casket bearers were Daniel SHAFFER, Rodney MONK, David GOURLEY, Robert CAMERON, Jim MASON and Gary DAMINANA.

Honorary pallbearers were Daivd SHAFFER and Chad BUSS.

Bertha was laid at rest in the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield.
