OBITUARY ~ JAMES DUFFIELD "JIM" McINTOSH
September 15, 1937 ~ May 26, 2012
James Duffield (Jim) McINTOSH, son of Dr. J. A. McINTOSH and Edith (DUFFIELD) McINTOSH, was born September 15, 1937 at a
Des Moines hospital. He grew up in Tingley and graduated from Tingley High School in 1956.
On April 2, 1958, Jim married Mary Sue PRITCHARD in Douds, Iowa, close to where they would be making their home. They
enjoyed 54 years of marriage and were blessed with one son, William E. (Bill) McINTOSH.
Jim graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College with a double major in history and physical education. He taught high school at
Birmingham, Iowa from 1960 through 1962. Besides teaching, Jim had all of the junior high and high school girls and boys
sports. From 1962 through 1966, he taught social studies and junior high sports at Buffalo, Iowa. In 1966, he moved back
to Tingley and taught drivers education and was the head boys track coach at Mount Ayr Community High School. In 1970,
Jim started a retail gun shop and operated it short of 30 years. He retired from that in 1997. In December 1994,
Jim and Mary Sue purchased the Tingley Grocery Store and operated it until 2004. Jim also did crop-hail adjusting for
Farmers Mutual Hail Company for 8 years.
Jim made friends all over the state of Iowa through going to gun shows. He
not only enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, shooting trap and sporting clays with his son and grandsons but also
enjoyed the same activities with many friends.
Jim passed away on May 26, 2012 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
parents-in-law Arthur & Cora PRITCHARD and step-mother-in-law Iola PRITCHARD.
Jim is survived by his wife Mary Sue McINTOSH of Tingley; son Bill McINTOSH & wife Tracy of Glidden, Iowa and 2 grandsons
Wesley and Kyle McINTOSH; brother-in-law Earl PRITCHARD; nephew Steve PRITCHARD & wife Linda; niece Teresa PARSON &
husband Al; former sister-in-law Maxine MILLER & husband Bob; other relatives and many good friends.
A memorial fund will be established in his name to be decided later.
Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
Services were held at the United
Methodist Church in Tingley on Thursday, May 31, 2012, with Rev. Robin THOMAS and Rev. Rick HAWKINS officiating. Musicians
were Nancy SACKETT, John ALLEN, Karen PETTINGER and Alan IBBOTSON.
Honorary pallbearers included Bob JOHNSON, Howard BRAUSE, Forrest PROUDFOOT, Jack AMES, Don PERRIN, Larry GILES, John F.
OVERHOLTZER, Howard TULL, John A. OVERHOLTZER, Elbert SKARDA and Les HICKMAN.
A private burial will be at a later date
in the Tingley Cemetery in Tingley.
