OBITUARY ~ DALE HERBERT MAUER

Dale H. MAUER, 84, of Afton, died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa. Memorial
services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Rev. Dr. Keith
SCHWEITZER will officiate. Open memorial visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday September 9, 2007 with the family to
receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or

Dale Herbert MAUER, son of Myrtle Lillian (BLOMQUIST) and Charles John MAUER was born April 21, 1923 in Plainview, Neb.
Dale graduated from Plainview High School in 1941. After helping his father for a short time on the farm he joined the
United States Air Force in 1944.
Dale married Leona Mae (STOLTZMAN) in San Angelo, Texas April 24, 1945, while in the Air Force. After his Military
service they returned to Plainview, Neb. where he continued to help out on the farm and later worked for the Electric
Company. In 1950 he moved to Afton, Iowa and began a career in the telephone industry and eventually became the owner
of Interstate 35 Telephone Company which evolved into multiple telecommunications companies. While Dale served as
President of his own companies he also served as District Manager of Contel properties in Mt Ayr and Knoxville, Iowa.
Through out his career he also was active in his community as a County Supervisor, past president of the Afton Volunteer
Fire Department, Chairman of the Legislative Communications Committee, former board member of the Western Rural Telephone
Association, Clearfield Lions Club, former board member of the Telephone Pioneers Association. And mostly Dale enjoyed
spending time with his family, golfing and traveling around the world.
Dale was very passionate about his career in the United States Air Force. Over the years Dale achieved the rank of
Lieutenant Colonel and enjoyed serving as a liaison officer for the United States Air Force Academy.
Dale is survived by two daughters Virginia COX of Houston, Texas and Valerie (husband Mike) WEIS of Norwalk, Ia.; a son
Robert "Bob" (wife Alice) MAUER of Emerson, Ia.; eight grandchildren Corey COX of Seattle, Wash., Amanda (COX) GRANT of
Vass, N. C., Nicholas MAUER of Portland, Ore., Katie MAUER of San Diego, Calif., Jimi CAMPBELL-RUSSELL of Portland, Ore.,
Kristen WEIS of Lincoln, Neb. and Jacob and Sam WEIS of Norwalk, Ia.; four great-grandchildren Stella and Paige COX of
Seattle, Wash., Jazmine VAUGHAN, and Zander RUSSELL of Portland, Ore., and many nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Leona and two brothers, LaVerne and Duane.
